Enjoying the trail systems is very important to all of us! Want to ensure that the trail system is well maintained, safe, sustainable, and expanding for more recreational experiences? Then be both a trail user and a trail worker, trail work will take place Thursday Evening (tomorrow night) at 5:45 at HPT parking lot. We need approximately 15 volunteers to get the scheduled work completed, so far we have 4 committed to being there, so we need more people to show up!
The trail work schedule is as follows:
- 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month meet at HPT parking lot to work on Upper Hixon trails at 5:45
- 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month meet at Milson Court/Quarry Road parking lot to work Lower Hixon parking lot at 5:45
(If the heat index is above 95 degrees we do not do trail work!)
What do I bring to trail work and what do I wear?
- Bring a water bottle or camel back to stay hydrated
- Sun screen and bug spray
- Wear long pants, sold work type shoes (no sandals) as we will be using sharp equipment
- Bring your friends as many hands make light work and great trails
Thanks for taking the time out of your scheduled to give back to the trail systems that we all get to enjoy! |

Saturday June 4 is National Trails Day. Whether you are heading out for a ride, hike, run or for a jaunt on your favorite path, you could not do it without the public land, trail systems, and people who build and protect them. Say thank you by pitching in on June 4 for a special Saturday trail building session. We will be continuing to work on a brand new Gollnick Trail as well as cleaning up the existing trails in preparation of the upcoming Trail-A-Palooza. After a morning of work and fun you'll be rewarded with a grilled lunch and beverages. Those who want to continue to celebrate our awesome trail system are welcome to head out for a ride or hike after lunch.
Make sure to dress appropriately...shoes/boots, gloves, and long pants.

ATTENTION: COMMUNITY CLEANUP IN LIEU OF TRAILWORK - REGULAR TRAILWORK WILL NOT HAPPEN TONIGHT.
HPT volunteers will instead be helping our neighbors recover from the storm that damaged La Crosse on Sunday.
Since we have a number of FISTA trained chainsaw operators we will meet at "Green Island Park" to help clean up the park.
Everybody that can show up, please do. You do not have to be FISTA trained, we will still need plenty of hands.
Who: All HPT volunteers (especially those who went through the FISTA chainsaw training) What: Clean up the park Where: The HPT trailer will be in the parking lot at Green Island Park (off of 7th Street S. - 2 blocks south of Gunderson Lutheran) Click HERE for a map When: Meet at 5:30pm tonight - Monday, May 23 |

We now have 6 "Official" Crew Leaders for HPT!
Matt Dotta, Jed Olson, Robbie Young, Marvin Wanders, Todd Reschke & Dan Luebke all graduated from the Trail Master Certification Course offered by the Wisconsin DNR.
The course included instruction on Trail Design & Layout, Trail Construction and Trail Maintenance, as well as Crew Leader Training.
The class was taught by Mike Riter of Trail Design Specialists and was an incredible learning experience for everyone involved. Mike was very impressed with everyone from HPT that went through the class; commenting that the individuals in the class were "some of the best and most knowledgeable that he had ever taught".
Other individuals from HPT that were able to come to some of the classes included: Mike Ayers, Bruce Van Epps, Ben Spanel, Paul Woods and Luke Schuttenhelm. In the near future these individuals and other HPT volunteers will work with those that graduated to become trained as crew leaders as well. Including Dave L, Tim W and Dustin C.
Thanks to everyone involved for taking the time to learn how to Build Better Trails!
